With 97% of the games accounted for, we have eleven players so far with 200-yard rushing games in a state final. Not all the articles had individual stats. Model's Mitchell Shellnut may have been over 200 as a junior in 1953. His three touchdown runs alone came to 139, but the AJC didn't give a total. I found a reference on-line to Michael Scott rushing for "over 200" in 2002 for Screven County.

Herschel Walker (Johnson County 1979): 302
Monte Williams (Commerce 2000): 286
Washaun Ealey (ECI 2007): 272 on 43 carries
Tijuan Green (Northside Warner Robins 2006): 260
Joe Burns (Thomas County Central 1997): 234
Cody Getz (Buford 2008): 233
Greg Gordon (East Rome 1977): 231
George Guisler (Athens 1955): 224
Mike Wysong (North Fulton 1966): 218
Lashon Darby (Cartersville 1991): 213
Paul Freeman (Brookwood 1996): 213
Demetris Murray (Buford 2007): 203
Brandon Andrews (Swainsboro 2000): 201
Michael Scott (Screven County 2002): “over 200”

We need to add Tijuan Green of Northside to the list after rushing for 260 against Marist in the AAAA championship game last night. That would be the third highest total ever.

I was digging out this post last night, in fact. Great research.

Ira,

I believe it was Brandon Andrews for Swainsboro in 2000.

Brandon Andrews

Ealey got his name on another short list last night. Only two others have rushed for more yards in a state championship game. Scroll up to see the list.

Ira, I know this probably isn't the right place to mention it, but I figured I'd do it here rather than start a new thread.

On the season rushing list (http://ghsfha.com/re...s.php?gRecID=10), I think Michah Andrews should be Micah Andrews (http://sports.espn.g...playerId=146025).

Also, Washaun Ealey can be finalized on that list now (which I'm sure was on your to-do list anyway). He finished with 2971 yards according to Rob Morton's AJC article. I guess he has the TD record (58), too.

He'll probably own most of the rushing records before he finishes.

Got it, I made the spelling change on the forum post and Bobby will update the data base as soon as we close out this season. We still need to verify Ealey's career touchdown total. Our listing cutoff is 70 so chances are he has that many already with a whole year left to play.

Shouldn't Darryl Ogletree from Greenville's 1980 State Championship game be on this list. The summary I found shows him at 221 Yards.

Dec. 13 Clinch Co. 12-10 W H Ogletree 221 yards rushing and game-winning “Hail Mary” pass to Melvin Robertson. Greenville took over on their own 17 with 1:24 left and no timeouts. A 36-yard halfback pass from Ogletree to Robertson put the ball on the 42 with 10 seconds on the clock. Ogletree threw the ball high into the end zone where it was tipped twice before Robertson caught it flat on his back.

Yardage totals are subject to dispute, I know.

The AJC reported:

"Ogletree had 165 yards rushing on 29 carries to finish the season with 2,585 yards and 22 touchdowns."

This really goes with 4 TDs in title game and this post so I'll put it all here. Johnny Gresham of Washington-Wilkes in 1960 scored four TDs and kicked four PATs in the title game. The touchdowns were runs of 5 yards, 8 yards, and 70 yards on rushes, and a 65-yard pass interception. His rushing total for that game (vs. Jenkins Co.) was 115 yards. The previous week in the semis (against Hogansville) he rushed 224 yards on 17 carries. This is from rechecking the Dec. 8, 1960 Washington News-Reporter this morning.
