The Royston High School nickname was NOT the Purple Hurricanes.
It WAS the Purple Panthers.

For every year from 1921 - 1963?
It may well have been both at different points, but what were they in 1963?
Somebody saw them called that somewhere and that's why it's in there, but we can make the other mascot name active if it was the most recently used.

At the Commerce Public Library, there is microfilm of The Commerce News and The Jackson Herald which is the Jeffersonnewspaper.
I went back to the library yesterday and read the microfilm articles again concerning the three games played by Commerce vs. Royston through the years as well as the four games played by Jefferson.
In the 1940, 1956 and 1957 games, the articles had the Royston nickname listed in some places as Panthers and in others as the Purple Panthers.
In the 1960-63 Jefferson games with Royston, the articles had the Royston nickname also listed as the Panthers.
What the Royston nickname was prior to 1940 and back into the 1920's I do not have data for.
However, they were the Panthers or Purple Panthers from 1940-1963.
